Qinghai-Tibet Railway is the world's highest railway. Some 960 kilometers of its tracks are located 4,000 meters above sea level and the highest point is 5,072 meters, at least 200 meters higher than the Peruvian railway in the Andes, which was formerly the world's most elevated track. The railway is the world's longest plateau railroad, extending 1,956 kilometers from Qinghai's provincial capital Xining to Lhasa in Tibet. The newly completed Golmud-Lhasa section zigzags 1,142 kilometers across the Kunlun and Tanggula mountain ranges. About 550 kilometers of the tracks run on frozen earth, the longest in any of the world's plateau railways. Tanggula Railway Station, 5,068 meters above sea level, is the highest railway station in the world. Fenghuoshan Tunnel, 4,905 meters above sea level, is the world's most elevated tunnel on frozen earth. Kunlun Mountain Tunnel, running 1,686 meters, is the world's longest plateau tunnel built on frozen earth. Upon its completion, the maximum train speed is designed to reach 100 kilometers per hour in the frozen earth areas and 120 kilometers per hour on non-frozen earth. Construction of the Golmud-Lhasa section of the landmark railway commenced on June 29, 2001 and test runs are set for July 2006.
During this tour, you will see some central tibet valleys and countryside sceneries. Along the way visit monasteries, enjoy hot-spring, also the Holy lake Yamdrok Lake, Gyantse famous Kumpum Stupa and the impressive the seat of Panchen Lama Tashilhunpo Monastery. You will learn more about tibetan religious and the Tsang area life style.

Day01-Day03 Xining/ Glomod/ Lhasa
Take the train N917 20:00-22:30 from Xining to Lhasa, pass through Taer Monastery, Riyue Mountain, Qinghai lake, Bird Island, Kunlun Mountain, Kekexili Area, Qiangtang Grassland then arrive at Lhasa adapt the high altitude.
Day04 Lhasa sightseeing (B + L + D)
Visit Potola Palace, Johkang temple, and Barkor Market. Overnight at Lhasa.
Day05 Lhasa sightseeing (B + L + D)
Visit Drepung Monastery, Sera Monastery, overnight at Lhasa.
Day06 Lhasa /Yangbachen hot-spring / Namtso Lake (B + L + D)
Day tour to Namtso Lake via Yangpachen hot-spring. You will have a chance to see Nyenchen Thanglha snow mountain ranges, and pass the Nagela. Namtso Lake is the sky lake which is one of the three holy lakes in Tibet, also the highest salt lake. You can do a bit trekking at the lake side. On the way back, have hot-spring at Yangbachen. Overnight in Lhasa.
Day07 Lhasa /Yamdrok Lake / Shigatse (B + L + D)
Up to Kambala pass which is 4794m high, you will have a glimpse of Yamdrok-tso there. It is one of the three holy lakes in Tibet. Then drive back to chushul, along Nepal friendship way to Shigatse, visit Tashilunpo Monastery and the spectacular tombs of Panchen Lamas in the afternoon. Overnight at Shigatse.
Day08 Shigatse / Gyantse / Lhasa (B + L + D)
After breakfast, drive to Gyantse, only 90km from Shigatse. You will visit the famous stupa - Gyantse Kumpum, the most stunning architectural wonder in Tibet. Afternoon drive back to Lhasa along the friendship way. Overnight at Lhasa.
Day09 Lhasa flight back to Chengdu(B)
Morning Airport dropping off, flight back to Chengdu, end the trip.
