About 7,000 black-necked cranes recorded in Tibet |

A latest statistics in 2007 shows that there are 6,940 black-necked cranes in Tibet with an average increase of 3.9 per cent.
Tsamjor Drolma, a researcher from Plateau Biology Research Institute of the TAR Science and Technology Department said that a statistics from 1990 to 1991 showed that there were only 3,910 black-necked cranes in Tibet while 4,200 from 2000 to 2001 and 6,940 in 2007.
Tsamjor Drolma who has dealed with black-necked cranes for over 20 years told that the increasing rate of black-necked cranes was about 3.9 per cent. It is much unexpected that black-necked cranes are found in developed township and along the Qinghai-Tibet Railway. It shows that protection on black-necked cranes in Tibet is effective.
The black-necked crane is classified in level one protected animals of China. Living in plateau only, this 130-cm length crane gets a skinned head and it's named by its black feather covering on the front and the back of the neck.  |
