The Lhoka cultural relics department recently discovered 12 places of cultural relics including Buddha monasteries, Buddha towers and rock paintings during a cultural relics historic sites research.
The research covers a distance of 80 kilometers from Samye Monastery which is known as "the ancestor of Tibetan monasteries" and ends in Konggar County, Lhoka.
These 12 cultural relic sites were discovered along the highway construction line in a five-month activity. One ancient village and one stone collection point were discovered in Chenggo ruin, which is located in the Chenggo channel and the nearby floodplain of the river.
The Chenggo ruin is the third biggest New Stone Age site ranked after Chamdo Karub ruin and Lhasa Qoigung ruin and it's rich in cultural remaining aged over 3,500 years, which is significant on Tibetan ancient cultural ruin and archaeology.
In addition, ancient stone pagoda, ancient Buddha pagoda, ancient building, Tibetan Buddhist monastery and Tibetan Buddhist nunnery were discovered one apiece. Four stone statues dated between 13th and 16th century and two rock paintings were also revealed.
The findings are very important for research on Tibetan history of culture, ethnic group, economy, Han and Tibetan relationship and change of plateau environment.
