Bicycle in Tibet
Bringing a Bicycle into Tibet You have to put your bike on the roof of a Land Cruiser, drive all the way to Lhasa and then you can cycle back. Rental The only place in Tibet where you can easily rent bicycles in Lhasa. Rates of Y2 to Y3 per hour or Y20 to Y30 per day prevail, and the bikes are usually Chinese Flying Pigeons. Test the brakes and tyres before taking the bike out onto the streets. Purchase Nowadays it is possible to buy a Chinese made or Taiwanese-made mountain bike in Lhasa for about Y500. Shop around in the area near the Potala on Deyi Nub Lam.
Long distance cyclists are once again appearing on the roads of Tibet. Most pack their bikes onto their tour to Lhasa and then cycle back along the Friendship Hwy. Others buy mountain bikes in China and bring them up to Lhasa.
